All the artwork on this page is batik. It is made by taking white fabric, painting on it with melted wax where you want it to stay white, and then dyeing the fabric – usually a light color. Once the dye has dried, you paint where you would like it to stay this new color (e.g. yellow) and dye the whole thing a darker color (e.g. orange). You continue waxing and dyeing until you have died the darkest color. Then you take it to the dry cleaners and have the wax taken out.
Illustrations from the book “The Everything Seed.”
Carole Martignacco wrote a children’s story called “The Everything Seed.” It told the story of creation using the image of a seed unfolding. She asked me to illustrate it using batik images. These are the pieces still available. These are all double matted and framed.
Other Batik Images
These pieces are not framed and do not have hanging sleeves. They are waiting for finishing, but let me know if you are interested in one of them.
