Raw edge applique
March 14 is Pi day. Pi is the ratio of the circumference of any circle to the diameter of that circle and is represented by the Greek Letter pi (which WordPress won’t let me use here). The value of pi is 3.141592653589793238…. approximately 3.14, hence the assignment of March 14 (3/14) as Pi day. A special day for us math geeks.
July 22 is Casual Pi Day. Since pi has an infinite number of decimal places, 22/7 is sometimes used as an approximate value of pi. So, when you turn 22/7 around, you get 7/22 or July 22. Fun!
Whether we like math or not, pi helps us predict the weather, track cargo ships, open google maps, build pyramids and arches, drive electric motors, and more. Pi is out there working for me, making my life better. So, it is only fitting that once a year we pay homage to that Pi in the sky.
Now, go eat a piece of pie.
