Summer is a time for remembering.

My Little Town – 36” x 24” – Raw Edge Applique $400
When challenged to use a song as inspiration for an art piece, I chose “My Little Town” by Paul Simon. I included bikes, a factory and laundry in the breeze.
I grew up a long way from California where I live now. But this week, I happened to meet someone who was familiar with my hometown of Independence, Missouri. As we talked, I remembered riding my bike to see friends, playing baseball in the empty lot, marching in the high school band. Good times!
I think about those people occasionally. The memories are still clear. I find it kind of weird to think that they’ve been out there all these years, living lives every bit as real as mine. We’ve grown old separately. I don’t know where or how they are now. But back then, they made my life fun and interesting. They shaped the way I live and taught me how to be a friend. So, even after all these years, the people from my little town hold a place in my heart.
