Mr. Tiger – Fabric collage – 21” x 17”

Upon first glance, this is a tiger (obviously!)  From a distance, he looks pretty fierce.  But when you get closer, you can see that Mr. Tiger is made up of 5 butterflies, 2 geckos, a turtle, 2 birds, 2 cats, a fish, a puffin, and a whole slew of flowers.  He’s a real pussy cat. 

I think people are like my tiger.  From a distance, they come across as tough, distant, or maybe even fierce.  But when we get to know them – get past that fierce exterior – there is often a beautiful and caring person.  I think I will try, from time to time, to get a little closer to someone; see what they are really made of.  I’m expecting to be pleasantly surprised!

I have really gotten into fabric collage lately. It is so much fun to find fabric patterns, colors and images that I can put together to make into a completely new image. I cut out little pictures and designs, fuse or glue them to my background, sew them down and then quilt the whole piece. You should expect to see more collages in the future.
